2018 – What’s Up At TMS Americas?!?

2018 – What’s Up At TMS Americas?!?

January 4th, 2018 and I am looking out my office window on a bright blue sky and sparkling sun. The trees are devoid of leaves and it is a bitter cold – 15 Celsius here in London, Ontario, Canada.  Good to be inside even though it is quite beautiful out there. The above I can be certain of, the rest of 2018 not so much! I think all of us are more or less in the same space. As we enter a new year we hope for a good year and wish others the same. We make some New Year’s Resolutions, do our best to plan how to create a good new year and off we go, both personally and organizationally. Then the year actually happens! And sometimes in that ‘happening’ our ‘plans̵... »

A Sad Time for TMS Americas – A Time for Reflection

A Sad Time for TMS Americas – A Time for Reflection

It has been a sad period of time for us at TMS Americas. Yet within this time is a chance (sometimes forced upon us) for reflection on what we do and what it means to us. As many of you know, our colleague and co managing director of TMS Americas, Bonnie Cooper retired at the end of June. Of course with any small organization someone leaving leaves a big gap. Then, a few weeks ago our colleague, Kathi Jolliffe’s younger brother passed away after a short and unexpected battle with cancer. Just last year he ran the Boston Marathon with Kathi cheering him on to the finish after she had completed the half marathon. That same week my mother passed away at the age 93. She had a stroke 2 1/2 ... »

Sustainability Resource Person – Who and What is This?

Sustainability Resource Person – Who and What is This?

Earlier this year TMS Americas introduced the role of Sustainability Resource into the mix of things we do and offer to help sustain the use of our assessment products. We now call this the Sustainability Resource Person. So what is this you may ask? It’s really quite simple and we think an important step in helping people understand sustainability of assessment use. Typically the Team Management Profile is used with groups and some kind of debrief of the models and profile results is facilitated by someone who has been accredited to use the TMP. In terms of the last few posts, this person would be considered the expert. In order to sustain the learning and value that happens in the de... »

Sustainable Assessment Use – The End User

Sustainable Assessment Use – The End User

The end user is the third variable of assessment use; the last two posts have looked at the product and the expert and how they may affect sustainable use. Interestingly, in the assessment business the end user tends to be the variable that gets the least amount of attention in terms of sustainable use, or use at all for that matter! This is interesting since it is the end user that will benefit most from sustainable use of the assessment! After all, the product is about them and how the information gets used will have the most impact and value for them. For the most part however, assessment companies have come to rely on the experts they train to provide the impetus and design for sustainab... »

Sustainable Assessment Use – The Expert

Sustainable Assessment Use – The Expert

The last post looked at sustainable assessment use through the lens of the product. The second of the 3 key variables in sustainable assessment use is the expert. That person is typically trained and certified by the assessment company to use the product. Thus I’ve used the term expert. For most assessment companies the expert is their key customer. A lot of time and effort is expended to train as many experts as you can in the assessment business since it is the expert that actually sells and uses the assessment, the product. For most assessment companies their business flows through the expert. So the question becomes, how well does the expert design, support and use assessments in a... »
